  1. i am shocked by this series. shocked! and pleased. time and time again, erin, you know nothing. from the blog prompt i believed i knew these photographs in advance. i know nothing of these photographs! each of these photographs exists on its own and is also communicating with the others. it is a new story. such boldness in being and yet such a surrender. oh! fucking brilliant, james! (i am so excited and happy.) the transition is like opening a window and flying out into the day!

  2. These pictures are much like my life right now. The road was clear and beautiful in the beginning only to find myself in the last picture were the road has disappeared and not sure if there is a road to keep following

  3. they glow with a light that i would like to see mine, but that is not possible because it is not human, and it is good so: there is no such purity and self-oblivion in a human heart, i don't think there can ever be. i would like to be stripped to the bones like this, i long for that state of complete bareness.

  4. The road between us is a favorite phrase of mine, as well as pretty much all variations: the space between us, the map between us... so much possibility there. Lovely pics!

  5. erin: the world is shocking, isn't it? any day, if i really look, will jolt me out of complacency and into the real snow, where it isn't even my shock that matters anymore. this has little to do with me. the window doesn't just open -- something huge takes us by the scruff of the neck and throws us through ... love :-)))

  8. Roxana: some days the world shows us its bones. we long for that state, all of the me stripped away, only light and the pure bones ... perhaps we can attain this only at the end, for then we no longer wish to speak, there is no rift to heal with words :-)

  9. Irene: i like "the map between us" ... the paradox of the road, of course, is that it both separates and unites -- this is true of any road, any wall, my lover's skin :-)
